i am totally not a blogger.  wow.  update on my pledge from last september.  i’m 1/3 of the way there.  so i’ve made progress.  so even if it takes a little longer – i know i can make it.

life is awesome.

wow, it’s been months since i blogged!  i guess i don’t have the internet at home, so over the summer i didn’t have much of a chance to.  so i thought i’d write something now.

i had an amazing summer – got to visit friends and hang out a ton.  i really love being a teacher and having my summers free.

but now school has started up again.  this is the start of my 9th year teaching which seems unbelievable.

i’ve decided to make some changes in my life.  mostly with my eating and exercising habits.  i know i need to get healthy.  so my goal is to lose half of my body weight!  we’ll see how it goes, but i think i can do it.  eat less, move more.  simple right?  haha.  but i’m going to do it.

i saw this on someone’s blog. so i decided to fill it out. why not?

babies grow up so fast! and so many of my friends are at that stage in life where they are having kids. i think i’ve written about this before, but since last march, five friends have had babies. this might not seem like a lot, but i don’t have many friends. so five babies seems like EVERYONE is having a baby. and i love it.

and you know that so many people think their baby is the cutest baby in the world. and they are all adorable. my friends’ babies: neo, morgan, chloe, eden are all so sweet. i really can’t even hande it. :)

but i must say. my nephew, andrew, takes the cake.

mothers-day-07014.jpg

look at this kid! he is the cutest! and i’m not just saying that cause he’s my nephew. (none of us do that). haha. but i just love this boy. he’s got so much personality now – almost 8 months.

we had a great time hanging out at jeff & missy’s on mother’s day. andrew got dedicated at church so we all gathered there. 4 grandparents, 2 uncles and an aunt (that’s me!) were there. and aunt lisa joined us for the barbeque. fun times. we totally rocked the badmitton also. dave bought a set with badmitton, horseshoes, volleyball and smashmitton! all for $9.99! hours of entertainment – let me tell you. i have some funny video of jeff getting knocked down by a birdie – so i’ll try to get that posted on here.

this weekend i also got to chill with my aunt jane and my cousins, margie & john. it’s so great to just sit and talk to people, play board games, have some great food. i really love my family.

well the concert was amazing!! the showroom at turning stone is a pretty cool place to see a show. this is the 3rd one i’ve been to in the past few months.

so keith emailed john ondrasik when he heard he was coming to the turning stone. and got us into the sound check. plus some sweet autographed posters. it was really fun. at first, it was just the other members of the band warming up and stuff. but they chatted with us a little and asked for requests. :) so that was super cool. then john came out and they ran through a few songs just for us. a free mini-concert. it was really sweet.

here i am with josh, keith & jen. we are so cool.

fiveforfighting007_edited.jpg

and here’s one during sound check. it was so sweet cause it was just the 40 of us from keith’s studio that got to watch. we were living large – coach bus – dinner at the buffet. it was really an amazing night. it’s a little fuzzy, but it’s my little camera without a flash – so not too bad.

fiveforfighting015.jpg

i’ve never been to a midnight movie showing.  until today.  well it was last night – but the movie technically didn’t start until midnight so it was friday.  my sister ali hates it when people refer to late nights as “the next morning”.  but oh well.

spiderman 3 was excellent.  i really enjoyed it.  i have trouble watching movies with a lot of action, fighting, violence and/or suspense.  but i think this movie was very balanced.  the story was the key component, but the action scenes were crazy cool.

it made for a late night – especially cause it was a school night.  going to bed at 3am is not a good idea for me.  but i made it to work.  and i can function.   i’m really looking forward to the weekend!

and next tuesday i get to go see five for fighting!!  it is going to be so amazing.  even more now cause i’ve been learning a few of their songs in my piano lesson.  so i can’t wait!!

i’ve been thinking a lot lately about old friends.  now that i’m almost 30, i can actually think about the days “when i was growing up”.  funny that i haven’t really felt grown up until now.  and for me, my real life-long friendships didn’t really begin until my late teen – early twenties.  i was ususally the oldest in my group of friends too, and i think i’ve developed a “big-sister complex” if there is such a thing.  feeling responsible and wanting to take care of my friends.  maybe a little too much.
but anyway, my trip to lynchburg and orlando this past week is really what got me thinking.  i saw ryan and bekah and katie – three people who were definitely a big part of that time in my life – 1996-2002 or so.  and as i was being introduced to people – it’s kinda hard to explain.  “childhood friends” and “we grew up together” were two ways that it was said.  both do make sense, but it seems so hard to sum up in a few words.
i think growing up is hard.  i know we all have different struggles and everything.  and now that many of my friends are parents, it gives me a whole other perspective. but sometimes i wonder when we really grow up.  does it ever really end?  or is it when we start to have some real responsibility?  i’m not sure.

please go vote for the new band showcase for cornerstone 2007. my friend keith has played with a band called “the least of these”. they are #16 in the voting so far and the top 10 bands get invited to play at the festival! so please go check it out. it takes a few minutes cause you have to register and stuff, but it’s worth it! once you register, go back to the page and scroll down until you see the band – the least of these. then click on their name to vote.

thanks a lot!

*edit*  as of today (april 24th) they are number 12!

well, my blog river has been pretty dry lately. so i asked kelly to interview me! you’ll see the rules of this game at the bottom of this post.

1- If you couldn’t teach, what would you do?

wow, this is a good one. i started out with a degree in engineering. i really thought i wanted to be a chemical engineer – and maybe work with plastics. but i don’t think i could do that now. just doesn’t sound as exciting. i would love to be a cosmetologist. i really enjoy doing hair, and have cut several of my friend’s and family’s hair in the past. (but don’t ask kevin about his bald spot)

ultimately, i would love to be a wife and mother and my job could be to take care of my family. but we’ll see what happens with that.

2- If you had to leave the US where would you go to live?

i loooove canada. :) so i would have to move there. probably british columbia. i stayed on vancouver island for a little while in the summer of 2000 and i loved it. and i love the accent. oot and aboot.

3- I won’t leave home without my……

a) cell phone. i don’t know what i did before i had it.

b) ipod. i don’t use it every day – but you never know when you might need some tunes.

c) keys. it’s just not a good idea.

4. Scariest childhood memory.

another great question. i used to hate thunderstorms! when i was in 4th grade i guess my mom told my teacher that i was afraid of them. so there was a storm and my teacher was “comforting” me. i was embarrassed.

the only other 3 things i can think of right now involve jon fischer. and these were when i was in my 20’s. hmmm…

i was scared once by kevin and jon. kevin said he had to show me something in the back hallway of the church. so we walked back there and jon jumped out of a big cardboard box. i screamed and wanted to kill them.

corn maze. dark night. jon jumping out of the rows of corn. yikes.

kj, angelina and i were sitting in the fischer’s living room. jon snuck out the back door and then got onto the front porch and banged on the window. dang! i jump/rolled onto the floor. jon also did this at the whitings with the same result.

note to self: never hang out with jon again.

5- Tween year movie star crush

i loved! kirk cameron. i guess he was a tv star. also tony danza.

so this is how you join in the fun.

  1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me”
  2. I will respond by emailing you five awesome questions.
  3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions and link to me.
  4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
  5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions and thus the merry-go-round of laughter and tears goes round and round.

well i did finally make it home. i was supposed to get home sunday morning – but didn’t make it until tuesday night. it was quite the ordeal. but my lovely friends, gabe and stacey, let me stay a couple more nights and kept bringing me to the airport. so i’m very lucky i didn’t spend all that time stranded. i have some cool pics to show you too.

this is a choclate fountain at the bellagio. and 2 random ladies i don’t know. it’s like 14 feet high and there are 3 types of chocolate. i like to think of it as the only chocolate in the world mixed by waterfall.

dscf1362.JPG

i also stopped by paris – one of my layovers was there. (no wonder it took me so long to get home!) just kidding – this is just a replica of the eiffel tower.

dscf1367.JPG

everyone has heard of the fountains at the bellagio. and this picture is not very good. it’s actually through some plastic up on one of the walkways on the strip. there are so many escalators and moving walkways. i thought they were cool. what can i say? little things amuse me.

dscf1381.JPG

we also drove out to the hoover dam. wow, it’s really big. this picture is maybe half of it – but it’s so hard to describe. everything in vegas is bigger than it seems in pictures or on tv. same with the hoover dam.

dscf1392.JPG

of the casino “layouts”, my favorite was new york, new york. very central park-ish and laid back. lots of trees and a little river and stuff. not that i’ve ever been to central park. but if i had to spend hours gambling – i’d pick this place.

dscf1401.JPG

speaking of gambling – here’s my favorite slot machine. the death star – ahhh!! actually it took like seven bucks from me or something. the force was not strong in me.

dscf1405.JPG

i’ll leave you with the cowboy. he’s on freemont street. the old “vintage” vegas strip. it’s a very cool place too.
